New places/ have been places :: travel, food :: 24
I had a „have been“-phase. No forward in the usual way, rather a reflecting of a now grown from a previous now. It made me realize that the places/ things I had found during my 20s, so a while ago, weren’t that bad. On the contrary: these places have become legendary ! Not by praising their glory, but instead by doing their daily work. Work means: keeping idealism and freedom alive, no matter what happens, never give up your values. So, naturally, these places still attract like-minded people of all ages. Some of these places are still run by the original founders, so they have been doing their daily work for almost 40 years now. Imagine this ! Nobody can compete with these people, it´s not possible to catch up with that.
The have been - phase was important. I learned that not all „new“ is better than the „old“ and not all „young“ is more liberal than the „old“. I met xxx older people who really astonished me, I didn’t know older ones could be free-minded at all, but all these men and women were more progressive and even more feminist than many young ones. Values have to be kept alive. They did that. This is what I call work. I really admire that.
Nevertheless - and I kind of had a guess - I started going to new places. In a way it feels more „natural“ to me (less exciting though). Most of these places are 21st century born, run by people of my generation or younger. They lack this history of rebellion, but kind of live these values of freedom in a taken-for-granted way (nothing to say against this)
